With reference to my despatch No. 137 of the

7th ultimo, I have the honour to transit herewith

copies of a letter from the Shanghai branch of the

June 23, 1915. China Association and of a despatch from the Gover-

Hongkong

nor of Hongkong ræarding the petition of British

June 21, 191bresidents on Shamem for the expulsion of Gerumin

from the Concession.

I agree with the view expressed in the last

sentence of Sir H.kay's despatch and consider that

His roellency is far better qualified to express

an opinion on the subject than the members of the

China Association at Shanghai.
